Unsubscribe patrons from Patron Point and Symphony emails


Patrons sometimes ask to stop being sent emails from LMxAC or their member library, rather than (or in addition to) clicking the unsubscribe link in each email.

If such a request is sent to LMxAC, we will manually remove them from all Patron Point segments and change their user category 6 to OPT-OUT in WorkFlows.  If the request is sent to the patron's member library, staff can perform the same actions by following the instructions below.

Manually remove patrons from Patron Point segments

You can update the patron's record in Patron Point so that they no longer receive any emails through that service:
  1. Go to the patron's profile.
  2. Click the triangle above the profile photo and select Preferences (see image A).
  3. On the Segments tab, click X on each segment from which you want to remove the patron.  In most cases, this will include all segments.  Click Save (see image B).

Use OPT-OUT in user cat 6 to stop (non-essential) Symphony emails

If your library sends email blasts through Symphony, you can stop patrons from receiving these messages by setting the patron's User Category 6 to OPT-OUT.  This setting is found in the Modify User wizard under the Demographics tab.  (Patrons will still receive transactional emails, e.g. hold notices and courtesy reminders.)



Have patrons update their preferences for specific Patron Point subscriptions

Depending on which messages the patrons wish to stop receiving, and how the library created their Patron Point forms & segments, patrons may be able to re-use the same form and simply update their preferences.  This is most useful when a patron wishes to stop some emails, but not all.  For more information, or to review your forms & segments for this capability, please open a ticket.
